Joann Grosso
Please welcome Joann Grosso to the Butterfield!
Joann was a 2025 October Invitational guest artist of Ron Velluci.
Joann is a Mixed Media Assemblage Artist. She loves the history of an old thing. She is drawn to its tell-tale patina, the way it feels in the hand, and its story. She considers herself a hunter of beauty found in the overlooked. By rummaging through castoff items that have outgrown their usefulness, she has collected hundreds of disparate objects. Her challenge and joy are to give placement to them in a unifying, often narrative art form.
Joann's background and early professional career in film photography taught her to embrace the essential, careful process required to make a photograph. Likewise, all steps in the process of assemblage have value. Each work created is like a word hidden inside herself asking to be spoken. Her process is largely intuitive, often beginning with a container of wood or metal. Sometimes a single item attracts her and soon a creation made of beloved castoffs begins to take shape.

Congratulations to Butterfield artists at the recent St. Augustine Art Association's 'Honors Show' (open to previous award winners). No fewer than TEN MEMBERS, each previous award winners, were exhibited.

Passing of the torch - or violin
The EMMA Concert Association Painted Violin Project is a fund-raising scheme involving the auctioning of an artistically decorated violin. Butterfield Garage Gallery is proud to be associated with this project, and indeed our Per Hans Romnes (above, right) was the violin artist for the last season. Here he has just passed what will become next season's artwork to it's artist, Butterfield's Jeffery Holmes.

Ted Judy - 'Painted Buntings'
Printmaker Ted Judy has recently joined Butterfield Garage Gallery.
Of his work, Ted shares that he is driven by the technical challenge and "mystic alchemy" of printmaking with work that incorporates relief, intaglio, monotype, and mixed-media techniques. He works to combine clean, geometric compositions with themes inspired by nature to create thought-provoking prints rooted in craftsmanship. Welcome to the gallery Ted!
Anne Boyle

Anne Boyle's love of painting began in Kindergarten, joyfully dipping her fingers into jars of paint. As a child, she studied privately with accomplished San Antonio painter Robert Hamman, learning classical techniques and the foundations of strong composition. Her fascination with detail emerged early, and by high school she was recreating Audubon's iconic bird illustrations with remarkable precision.
Anne went on to earn both a BFA and a BA in Art from the University of Texas. Over the years, she has continued to explore and refine her style, working primarily in gouache watercolor and acrylics. Her work is deeply inspired by the natural world, ranging from realistic and abstract florals to brightly colored Caribbean fish and intricate, Aboriginal-inspired abstracts. Anne's large acrylic paintings reflect the fine-line precision of her gouache work, characterized by exquisite detail and vibrant color.
After years in Chicago working in corporate software sales, Anne recently relocated to the beautiful city of St. Augustine to devote herself fully to painting. She is excited to immerse herself in the local art community and explore the flora and fauna of her new coastal home through her art.
