Monthly Featured Artists

In addition to our member artists gallery, the Butterfield Garage Art Gallery highlights a featured gallery member artist each month on a rotating basis.

For a special experience, come join us during our popular "First Friday" art walk held the first Friday of every month from 6-9 pm. These monthly receptions have developed into somewhat of a social and cultural phenomenon for our area, creating a lively atmosphere for visitors and residents alike. The opportunity to visit with the artist, and hear them speak about their work is a unique experience made possible by our member-run gallery venue. Direct exposure to artists of this caliber is not something every area can offer, and contributes positively to Saint Augustine's culturally rich environment.

All Things Coastal!

Carolyn's theme for her exhibition is "All Things Coastal!"  She says:

"My paintings are inspired by various vacations that I have taken on the coast of Georgia and Florida. I find myself drawn to the water. It is where I feel renewed and am inspired to create."

"When painting I love listening to the song Oceans, ‘The words Spirit lead me where my faith will be made stronger in the presence of my Savior,’ increases my inner peace and gives me a calm while I am creating on my canvas. Everything I have is because of my faith and what God has brought me through. I am so thankful to share my paintings with others!"

"For as long as I can remember I have been creating art in some form or another, where it is in painting, sketching, or baking cakes.  I remember the first time I tried to draw the ocean as a child.  I loved it then and I love it even more now."

"Art was my favorite part of high school.  I took it all four years.  I took painting classes at the library.  I put my art aside to raise my family but would incorporate art into my life wherever possible.  I took art classes from Jean Pelligrino in Orange Park, Fl.  I have also taken online art classes with Nancy Medina and online watercolor classes with Dreama Tolle Perry.  Presently I have an art Facebook page that I am enjoying sharing my art adventures with my assistant "Miss Maybelle", my 3lb. Yorkshire Terrier.  My favorite medium to paint with is oils and I love painting shrimp boats!"

"After raising children and caring for aging parents I returned to my love of painting.  I am inspired by the beauty of the beach, where I find rest, peace, and renewal.  The color and movement of the water, clouds, and sand draw me in.  I try to capture all that I feel on the canvas of my paintings."

"These things have I spoken unto you that in Me you might have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world."  John 16:33

March 2026  -  Victor Caruncho

New York born, self-taught, artist, Victor Caruncho has an overwhelming passion for the
arts. Painting and Drawing was evident from an early age…   Growing up in a family of artists, he was surrounded by the works of the Old Masters such as; Rembrandt, Vermeer, Van Gogh, Dali, Magritte and along with his favorite - Caravaggio - whom all have shaped his career.

After High School, Victor wanted to pursue his dreams of Art. He applied to the
prestigious School of Visual Arts (SVA) in Manhattan, NYC and got accepted. However,
after a certain flock of circumstances arose, Victor was not able to attend due to having
to support himself financially. A few years pass by after struggling and working odd and end jobs Victor decided to take another artistic path. The opportunity came as he
enrolled in the Plaza School of Architectural Drafting and Design located in NJ. While
there he honed his skills in Architectural hand drafting and then later working with many established Architectural and Engineering firms. Although this line of work differs, Victor never abandoned his true passion of artistic expression. “Drawing and painting will never cease from my veins, it’s in my blood!”

As the industry changed throughout the years and became more prominent with the use
of more computers, another turn of events came upon him as he set out to start his own
successful business as a Decorative Faux Painter and Artisan, leaving the world of
Architecture and Engineering behind. There his business thrived completing many
projects, accomplishing many faux finishes for homes and businesses and especially an
abundance of Murals and decorative designs. Fine art canvas work was also in full effect!

His unique look upon the world eminently shows in almost all aspects of his works from
diverse Architectural designs to fabulous wall finishes and to his surprisingly different
and separate views at everyday objects which are highly visible in all of his fine art
pieces. Honoring the likes of the surreal masters Dali and Magritte, in a way, Victor’s
works poke fun at everyday life in odd depictions of familiar objects in bizarre context.
Painting images that make you think with hidden meanings or simply no meaning at all.
Ordinary appear strange. A witty charm or a pun on words!

Victor’s other interests include Health, Fitness and Bodybuilding and a love for the
human form. Music, playing guitar, and spending time with his lovely family.

April 2026  -  Amy Hemphill Dove

Amy Dove headbanger.jpg

Amy Hemphill Dove refers to herself as a “dyed in the wool” fiber artist.

Amy was born in West Chester, PA, into a family of artists, musicians, creators, and collectors. She earned a BSc from Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, and for several years designed Jacquard fabrics ranging from abstract to traditional. From this she developed 'Weavart,' reweaving these commercial designs of hers into woven collages.

Amy, endlessly experimental, became fascinated with wet felt-making and the various textures and blends she could create within the process. She now combines different materials - mostly hand-dyed - to create layers of new textural expressions all while embracing the visceral nature of the fibers.

“Creating with fibers and textiles is more than just a passion to me - it’s a form of storytelling. I’ve been creating since I was young, driven by curiosity and a deep appreciation for color, texture, and emotion. Whether I’m painting and designing silks, felt making, or botanical printing, my work reflects the world as I experience it—raw, alive, and layered with meaning. My mission as an artist is to create work that resonates on an emotional level—pieces that make people pause, remember, and connect.”

Amy’s creativity flows mostly from the magnificent beauty of nature: The variety of colors and textures in flowers, trees, and creatures are her boundless inspiration. The power of the sea, the rustling of the forest, the singing of birds, and the beauty of sunrises and sunsets all lay an indelible imprint on Amy’s work and are reflected in the textures, color palettes, and compositions she creates.

Amy is one of the longest-term members and a principal of the Butterfield Garage Art Gallery. She has been a member the St. Augustine Art Association since 2013 having won many awards there for her feltworks, most recently 3rd place in the Association’s 2024 Honors Show for ‘Summertime Trellis’. Additionally, she often presents her pieces in art shows and exhibitions elsewhere along the East Coast.

About Butterfield Garage Gallery

Established in February 1999, Butterfield Garage Art Gallery is the brainchild of artist Jan Miller. Her vision was to create an artist-run gallery for professional artists that would encourage creative experimentation. Miller brought with her the experience of over 40 years as a successful professional artist. Having been a former member of ARC Cooperative in Chicago, Jan wanted to create a similar collective here in her new home. Her plan was to bring together the best artists in the area, who would share expenses, management, and operation of the gallery. The gallery opened its doors in February 1999.

For 25 years now, the Butterfield Garage Art Gallery has provided its artists with the chance to grow and take advantage of opportunities that may come their way through exposure in a professional gallery. And we continue to this day, true to the gallery’s original mission: to be a leader in the presentation of traditional and contemporary visual arts in Northeast Florida, and to encourage the experience of direct accessibility and dialogue between artists and their customers.
