About the Artist

Nancy Hamlin-Vogler is Butterfield Garage’s June Featured Artist. “Shoreline Narrative…hanging by a thread”, presents new work on paper from Hamlin-Vogler’s shoreline series, exploring the artist’s impressions of our changing environment.
Nancy’s energetic new work is full of surprises and always a delight to see. Minimal marks combine pasted papers, acrylic wash, silkscreen and pastel on reclaimed paper and wood substrates. The artist will be present in the gallery all day on June 2nd and will present an artist talk at 6 pm. She will host a backyard Open Studio event on June 17, from 1-5 pm. More details will be forthcoming.
“My non-traditional painting practice pays homage to the intrinsic nature of each medium. I work intuitively and gesturally, inspired by fortuitous discoveries and the visual references in and around my backyard studio.”
Nancy Hamlin-Vogler’s passion for contemporary art is evident in her mixed media works rendering still life, studio ephemera, landscape, and figurative subjects in her signature gestural and abstracted style. Her works are featured in juried art shows as well as in regional invitational exhibitions. Among her recent awards, in 2022 she was chosen by the St. Johns Cultural Council to present a comprehensive exhibition at the Rotunda Gallery in the County Administration Building. In 2020 she received her second Individual Art Ventures grant from The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, this time to explore the still life genre. She regularly exhibits at the St. Augustine Art Association and co-directs the Louise Freshman Brown workshops at the St. Augustine Art Association.

After completing graduate school from University of Maine, and armed with an M.A. in French Literature, Nancy developed her  infatuation with the silkscreen printing process and designed a line of greeting cards which became Eastern Sun Printworks. The iconic cards are still carried nationwide and are available locally at Butterfield Garage. Learn more at
